How the Regatta Challenge can help you to rock the HOCR 2020




For the first time in its 55-year history, the Head of The Charles® Regatta will not be held as an on-water but as a global remote event. The virtual nature of the event will allow anyone to participate – no qualification or lottery needed. This will give athletes around the globe the opportunity to compete in the 2020 HOCR from their own rowing ergometer.


You can row the 4,702-meter distance on any given day during the event week from Friday October 9th to Friday October 16th and submit your results online as many times as you wish. You can find more information about the rules and registration on the official Head of The Charles® website.


And in support of all those who regularly race the HOCR or are trying it for the first time, Regatta has created a special set of classes so that entrants can still row together live and experience the thrill of competition. Only Regatta’s connected fitness app can bring together everyone’s ergs no matter where in the world they are through our unique CrewTrack tracking board which syncs performance metrics in real-time from compatible erg monitors. In addition, the Regatta app streams live coaches via video to help motivate and encourage you as you complete the distance. The Regatta app is available at the Apple App Store and can be used on any iOS device.

LIVE HOCR Distance Row Classes Oct 9th - Oct 16th

We are hosting a LIVE class almost every day during the HOCR submission period! After a short 5min warm-up, our experienced rowing instructors will talk you through a 30-minute class to help you to finish the 4,072 meter goal in your best possible time.

You Will Not Erg Alone - Compete in Real-time


Instead of rowing by yourself, our instructors will help navigate you through the Head of the Charles® Regatta distance. They will offer positive encouragement and help with your pacing throughout the class. In addition, you will see everyone else on our CrewTrack board and compete live with them! Have a team? Then this is the perfect way to get everyone together at once and see your metrics in real-time (be sure to identify your team names in your profile).


Capture & Post to Concept2 Logbook or Strava

The event week allows you to participate on as many races as you want, any day between Oct 9 – 16. The Regatta app will automatically sync your data to Concept2's Online Logbook or Strava so you have official results captured. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook for updates and detailed schedule information.


Ready Your Boat (or Erg)


The Regatta app connects via Bluetooth to the Concept2 PM5 monitor. Learn to program your PM5 monitor to row the exact race distance with the "How To" video below:



We will help you to optimize your HOCR race time

According to Sydney Dollmeyer, Regatta coach, and member of Wellesley's 2016 NCAA National Championship team, practicing the complete race distance at least three times before the race will allow you to understand how to pace yourself and to avoid body AND brain fatigue. Our race challenge week will let you do several practice races before submitting your results.
